I am often asked when is the right time to contact us for a new home construction project.
In my opinion, as soon as you start thinking about it!
I was recently contacted by a long time client who is downsizing from his home of over 40 years. He is planning to break ground on the new home in the spring.
He knew of my philosophy, so as soon as the initial plans were available, he had the architect send me copies. We then set up a meeting to discuss wish lists.
Included with the regular AV requests was the capability of tying in his HVAC system since he and his wife travel back and forth to their FL home on a regular basis. He wanted to be able to set the temp for an away mode while he is gone, and to be able to set it up for home mode when he reaches the airport in FL for his flight home. That way it’s ready for them when they walk in the door after their trip.
Since we know this early in the project, we will be able to communicate with the architect as well as the GC on what system will be used for the HVAC. That way, we know that our Crestron Control System will be able to communicate with their system. The other advantage of starting out early in the project is that instead of having to have the thermostats located in the living space and not looking very attractive, they will be located in the mechanical room. Instead, we will have small temperature sensors located in the living spaces. They are only about 1” in diameter and almost fl ush, and can be painted or even covered with wallpaper to blend into the room.
Other advantages of being involved early in the project is that we can specify how certain walls need to have the studs spaced, so that in wall speakers are in the right locations, and where large TVs will be mounted can be reinforced.
Plus, we can suggest other technologies they may need, such as centralized lighting, shades, automated door locks, etc. There really is no limit to what we can do for your home!
